Different insurers draw the line in different places
One insurer may be happy to quote where another stops offering new policies above a particular age. That is a commercial underwriting decision, not a general rule that older drivers can't be insured.
Do not mix up insurance and DVLA rules
Insurance and driving-licence requirements are related but not the same thing. If a medical condition must be reported to the DVLA, deal with that separately and tell the insurer where its questions require it.
Use a realistic mileage figure. Many people drive fewer miles after they stop commuting. If your annual mileage changes, use a realistic figure rather than automatically carrying forward the old one.
Named drivers can move the price either way
Adding another driver can alter a premium in either direction. What matters is that the declared main driver must still be the person who genuinely uses the car most.
Price is not the only thing worth comparing
Breakdown assistance, courtesy-car arrangements and claims support may matter more to some older motorists than shaving a small amount from the premium. Compare the policy you're buying, not just the headline figure.
